A brief note for lovers of rain and its gifts, especially in dry climates.

In our yard, I see…

green native grass, which attracts cottontail rabbits,

but they are still shy

I see moist places tucked between boulders—

home to rapidly growing mushrooms

Our yard has boulders like those surrounding this mushroom. The rock faces look fringed and circular, the latter just reflects the way my macro filter forms a circle as it crops the subject.

We see the stem of the fungus set against the boulders deep shadow. I love the fringe such delicate repeating patterns—apparently “gills” tucked under the white cap of the mushroom.)

Venture further from our home into the forest and you might find Lobster Mushrooms like this, its “gills” showing in the photo

All for now— this brief note for lovers of rain and its gifts— gifts to creatures like rabbits and mushrooms and to us who appreciate them
