I am both drawn to, and frustrated by, my dark and brooding images. Too dark, and any attempt to lighten them produces “noise” (the digital equivalent of “grain” in film photographs). Fortunately, years of frustration give way to hope and pleasure as I discover new ways to revive these dark images.
THE FOUR PHOTOS I GIVE YOU HERE ARE EXAMPLES!
Recently the German photographer Christian Möhrle posted a tutorial on that subject on his YouTube channel. You (and Mr. Möhrle!) are invited to subscribe to my blog!
1) The first of four photos I offer you bears a special beauty as one of the only images I have shot using a Leica lens (a shout-out to Lensrentals!)

2) The photograph below is special to me because it was shot on my only solo trip to far southern Arizona to see my daughter when she lived there. As far as I can tell, these mountains south of Benson AZ are the Whetstones. I was shooting on the gear I use now, Olympus/ OM System (in this case, a 40-150mm M. Zuiko f/2.8 lens on an E-M1 Mark II camera).

3) Chiaroscuro anyone? The next image captures fall foliage in beautiful northern Arizona, shot with the aforementioned Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 lens on an E-M1 Mark II camera.

4) Finally, the photograph below was shot on my old Canon EOS Rebel with a Tamron lens (18-400mm f/3.5), from my front door!
