Whatever art form one practices:, the light is crucial. Light is the subject, the object, the be all and end all. We don’t make it— it makes us, and our art. But we can still be creative WITH the light. This post describes one way to do so.
Driving up Snowbowl Road to the ski area parking lot on the San Francisco Peaks. Watch what happens as the forest thins enough to afford a glimpse of the sun.
The video demonstrates that, at least to some extent, the starburst pattern is a phenomenon in the world.
However, when taking photographs in which the sunlight seems to cry out for special treatment, you have to use a very high f-stop, higher than f/11.


The remaining two photos I am sharing with you illustrate lens flare, but not of the starburst type, and not with a narrow aperture (high f-stop). These next photos just capture the beauty of the sun’s rays just after sunrise.
